Overview

Maryknoll students have the opportunity to participate in music from grades PK-12. Our music program develops students’ artistry, dedication, and teamwork as they learn to read, write, and improvise music. Maryknoll musicians perform regularly at school functions and in the community.

General Music

All students take general music classes from grades PK-5. An emphasis is placed on singing, musical games, and community dancing. Kodaly, Orff, and Dalcroze methodologies are used.

Band

Beginning in grade 6, students have the opportunity to take beginning group instruction in a variety of band instruments. Throughout the middle level, an emphasis is placed on improvisation and the study of music literature encompassing various periods and styles. In high school, students may continue their band experience and further develop their musicianship and creative capacity.

Beginning in grade 7, students have the opportunity to take the Music Ministry course. Through Music Ministry, students study vocal technique and enhance their knowledge and skills as vocal performers at school-wide Praise and Worship and Masses.
